South Korea Farm Gas Monitoring Project with LED Alarm Display and Audible Visual Alarm
In modern large-scale aquaculture, closed or semi-closed environment can improve the efficiency of aquaculture, but it is also easy to cause harmful gas accumulation. Once ventilation is insufficient, the concentration of dangerous gases such as methane, hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide exceeds the standard, which will not only affect animal health, but also threaten the personal safety of workers. Recently, a large-scale farm adopted a fixed gas monitoring solution from Hirep, which realized all-weather, multi-parameter and remote visual safety monitoring of the breeding area.
Project background
This customer is a modern animal husbandry and breeding enterprise, and the following security risks exist in the breeding area for a long time:
Manure fermentation is easy to produce combustible gas;
Decomposition of organic matter will release hydrogen sulfide;
Confined space may lead to insufficient oxygen;
Equipment combustion or heating system may bring carbon monoxide risk;
People can’t intuitively judge whether the environment is safe before entering the closed area.

In order to realize the safety management mode of “detect first, then enter”, customers want to detect dangerous gases in the aquaculture area in real time, and clearly display the current gas status at the entrance, so that the staff can judge the site environment before entering.
solution
According to the customer’s site structure and monitoring requirements, the deployment scheme is as follows:
1. Internal fixed gas detector
Fixed gas detectors are installed at several key positions in the breeding shed to detect four key gases in real time:
Combustible gas (LEL)
Oxygen (o)
Carbon monoxide (CO)
Hydrogen sulfide (hs)
The detector samples continuously for 24 hours and transmits the real-time concentration data to the external display terminal.
2. Entrance LED status display screen
Two-color LED display screen is installed at the entrance of the breeding area, which is convenient for staff to check the environmental status before entering.
The display logic is as follows:
Blue display: the environment is normal and safe to enter.
Oxygen concentration is normal
Combustible gas is within the limit.
CO concentration is normal
Hs concentration is normal
Red display: abnormal environment, no entry.
Any gas exceeds the preset alarm value.
The screen automatically switches the red warning interface.
Display abnormal gas concentration data
This design of “blue traffic and red prohibition” can quickly identify the site status even at a long distance, greatly improving the efficiency of personnel safety management.
Acoustooptic linkage alarm
In addition to the entrance LED display system, the customer also configured the regional audible and visual alarm synchronously.

When any internal gas exceeds the standard, the system will immediately perform linkage:
LED display
Switch from blue to red alarm interface and display abnormal concentration.
Regional audible and visual alarm
High decibel buzzer alarm
High frequency flashing warning light
Remind on-site personnel to evacuate immediately or prohibit entry.
Through the “visual+auditory” double reminder, even if the staff does not directly observe the display screen, they can know the dangerous state at the first time.
Practical application effect
After the system is put into use, the customer feedback effect is obvious:
Security improvement
Before entering the culture area, the environmental safety status can be confirmed to avoid blind entry.
Management is more intuitive
The entrance status is clear at a glance, and there is no need for additional hand-held detection.
More timely response

After the abnormal gas is generated, the system gives an alarm at the second level.
Reduce the risk of accidents
Effective prevention:
Hydrogen sulfide poisoning
Hypoxia asphyxia
Combustible gas explosion
carbon monoxide poisoning
Customer feedback
The customer said:
“In the past, entering the aquaculture area could only be judged by experience. Now the entrance display directly tells us whether we can enter, blue peace of mind, red prohibition, and with the sound and light alarm, the whole safety management has become very simple and intuitive.”
With the development of smart farming, gas safety monitoring is changing from “after-treatment” to “active prevention”. Multi-gas on-line monitoring+entrance visual early warning scheme like Hirep is becoming an important part of modern farm safety management.
